Scotland...I'm coming home.

Today was my last day in L.A. I did a little shopping for treats this morning for my grandchildren and spent the rest of the day enjoying this. How beautiful. A stark contrast to my visit to Beverly Hills yesterday where I strolled down Rodeo Drive and had lunch in Tiffany's. Hey...get me! Hahaha! I've had a blast teaching here. I know I shall return next year and will be have the details of those classes posted on the website in a few weeks. I am glad to have had an extra couple of days to relax before the long journey home. I am well refreshed and ready for the next classes which will be taking place in London next month. Oh dear...does that mean that Harrod's will be getting another bashing? (yes of course it does!) Thank you L.A. students. I have loved every minute of teaching you all that I could this time around. Here's to 2011! (If you want to see more photos of the L.A. experience you can find them on my Flickr )

Beautiful L.A.

I arrived in L.A. yesterday which would have been 11.30pm Edinburgh time.....but in L.A. it was time to settle in to our new home for the next few days and then check out the dining options. On the way back from enjoying the most wonderful Thai food, I took this photograph. Isn't it absolutely amazing? I left the rain behind in Scotland and can't believe I have seen this view with my own eyes. I can't tell you how relaxed I feel and ready for the classes ahead. This is Seal Beach, L.A. Already we are talking about a return visit next year and are finalising the details for the classes coming up in Seattle in August. It's not all play...there is some work going on...but this doesn't feel like a job to me. I am so lucky and don't I know it. What a privilige it truly is to experience this life. Everything good comes to those who wait...I've waited a long time. It's been worth it.

...and finally

...the finished cake! I had fun with this. Now I just have time to pack the suitcases and get my keister off to L.A.! Wooohooooo! I'll keep you posted on the fun times ahead and will no doubt be adding daily posts on Facebook ...another daily fix! I'll still be checking the mail daily when I'm gone but replies will be in order of urgency. I'll be home on the 26th. London next month folks...few spaces available on those classes so don't delay if you still want to come along. Cheers!

Doing things a little differently today.

Just wanted to share with you my fun for the day! With time against me this week and with a little tricky design to attempt, I decided to do a little drawing and painting onto a cake instead of making the models for this one. My first thought was to do this directly onto the cake but with my hand needing to balance well I decided not to be too smart about it and do the drawing onto a thinly rolled piece of Flower Paste then cut around it and place it onto the cake. With no room for error and using my Sugarflair paste colours like acrylics, I mixed with a little alcohol and took the bull by the horns and went for it! No pencils and erasers this time....just a good eye and a "go for it" attitude. It must be my lucky day as I did this all in one go. Took me 4 hours mind you, just to draw and colour. I'm really happy with the result and may decide to do more art work onto cakes in the future for a wee change.....my own cartoon art though and not something specific like this. It might be fun...don't you think?

Thank you Wirral BSG!

I have now returned safely from my travels to the Wirral where I did an evening demonstration followed by a workshop the following day. A HUGE thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome and especially to Marion Frost of Patchwork Cutters for sending the invitation in the first place! Thank you also goes to Karen Davies for making sure I saw the important things in Liverpool....the shops! Hahaha! The only photograph I took was of Albert Dock where Richard and Judy used to host their daily morning show! How sad am I? Still...next time I'll make sure I add another day to get all the retail therapy I need before driving home.
It was lovely to meet everyone, the Wirral is a fantastic BSG branch and I wish you all the very best. THANK YOU!
